Problem

Many people struggle with procrastination, poor time management, and unstructured routines, making it difficult to stay consistent and achieve their goals

To understand the causes of procrastination, distraction, stress, and poor routine management, I conducted behavioural and psychological research across neuroscience, productivity, and clinical psychology

The research showed that cognitive overload, digital distractions, poor sleep, and lack of structure reduce focus and productivity, shaping RHYTHM's approach to routine building and distraction management

Understanding User Behaviour

Method

To validate these problems, I conducted a survey with 25 participants to understand their routines, challenges, and productivity habits

Findings

The survey revealed recurring challenges around productivity, focus, and task completion. 91% of participants reported experiencing stress due to unfinished tasks, while almost all participants acknowledged struggling with procrastination in their daily lives

Research Insights

The research revealed that users struggle not only with planning their day, but also with following through on their plans. Distractions, procrastination, and poor routine structure often prevent users from staying on track

Problem Statement

Currently, users struggle to structure their day, organize tasks, and consistently follow through without breaking flow, resulting in procrastination and unfinished tasks. This leads to a constant feeling of lack of time, confusion, and stress

Competitor Analysis

To better understand existing productivity and routine-building experiences, I conducted a competitor analysis of five apps with overlapping functionalities: Fabulous, Structured, Finch, Routinely, and Daylio

The analysis compared onboarding flows, navigation systems, information architecture, core interactions, guidance and accountability features, emotional experience, user pain points, and overall usability patterns.

The research helped identify existing gaps, key behavioural insights, and opportunities to shape Rhythm into a more structured, mindful, and psychologically supportive productivity experience

How Rhythm Addresses These Challenges

Rhythm helps users organize their day, build structured routines, and stay consistent through guided task management, flexible scheduling, focus-based planning, and sleep awareness

The goal is to reduce procrastination, improve focus and help users make the most of their day

Monetization Strategy

Rhythm follows a trial-based subscription model, giving users full access to the platform for one month before transitioning to a paid plan

This allows users to experience the product's value firsthand before making a purchase decision

Reflection & Learnings

Rhythm was inspired by challenges I have personally experienced and observed in others. Working on this project allowed me to explore the psychology behind procrastination, routines, focus, and habit formation.

Through research and design exploration, I gained a deeper understanding of the factors that influence productivity and the importance of creating systems that help users build structure, stay consistent, and make meaningful progress toward their goals.
